Pantai Dalit Beach, Tuaran, Sabah, 89208, Malaysia

I can proudly say that I probably had my last chance to see orangutans in the wild and I took it. Yes, sadly these endangered apes have finally left this luxury family-friendly hotel for another orangutan rehabilitation centre. Sweat not, for what is left behind is still a gorgeous beach resort with one of my favorite beaches in all of Asia. Plus, a truckload of fun activities for the entire family. Yes, I still want to go back!

Family favorites:
  1. With 3 family-friendly pools to choose from, we were spoilt for choice. My toddler ran for the baby pool with the small slide and my older one was thrilled to see a second pool with a larger slide for him.
  2. Beach front property with an absolutely stunning beach. The waters are warm and shallow, allowing even my two year old to walk into the water for a while without having to swim. Water sports were offered on the beach.
  3. Horse riding in a ring for children and on the beach for adults.
  4. Nature related activities like Nocturnal Animal Watch, Jungle Walks, Bird Watching and Forest Garden Introduction are offered.
  5. The kids loved feeding the fish, hens and goats at the Nature Interpretation Centre.
  6. We spent a rainy afternoon at the games corner with table tennis, pool tables, carom, Jenga, chess, checkers and a local, traditional game called congkak. There was even mahjong for the adults.
  7. A croquet lawn, a petanque pitch, a giant chess board, a small putting green and a horse shoe game court add to the fun.
  8. Each restaurant had its own kids’ menu unlike some resorts that offer a general kids’ menu at all restaurants. The kids were thrilled to be offered Indian food at the Indian restaurant and loved the Japanese selection for them at the Japanese restaurant.
  9. Children under the age of 12 enjoy complimentary buffet breakfast at Coffee Terrace as well as buffet dinner at Coffee Terrace and Tepi Laut when accompanied by a paying adult (maximum of 2 children per adult). Extra children (under the age of 12) receive a 50% discount on the buffet price.
  10. The resort offers archery, rock climbing and bike rental.
  11. The Kids’ Club (7 am – 10 pm; charge of MYR 31 per child after 7 pm), with a giant ship as its frontal façade will grab your kids from the very beginning. It comes with a reading corner, foosball table, games, toys and puzzles. There is a mini-movie theatre as well as art and craft room. An outdoor flying fox and sand pit promise to deliver hours of fun. Children can also explore the local musical instruments at the club. There are a wide array of activities for 5-11 year olds like bangle making, wire arts, newspaper craft, kite flying, coconut bowling, mini golf putting and local dance lessons. There are several activities for the 12-15 year old to choose from as well. You can even sign up your little prince or princess to play exactly that – a prince or princess – in the sunset ceremony that takes place every evening at the Sampan Bar.Pongo The Orangutan, the resort’s friendly mascot makes an appearance, much to the delight of the little ones, at the kids’ club every morning.
  12. Shopping arcade on site that stocks essential supplies like diapers, baby shampoo, nappy cream, sun block etc.
  13. Child DVDs for rental.
